Nature Valley Run 2010

Absolutely the best run compared to my first. Though I wasn't able to do a sub-30, at least I was able to break my PR from 43 mins now I finished 36 mins. :D Met Jorge from http://www.ineedalifeline.org/, saw some Facebook running fellows (though I was shy to say "hi" and "hello." Saw the "real" running enthusiasts in the event. I wanna share some pics taken:

Runners at the starting line. You can feel the energy and the eagerness to run while doing stretching exercises

Since we didn't have a chance to take pictures with Coach Rio, just took a pose in one of his pictures

No change in pose from previous shot. :D I think I was too tired and wasn't able to think for a pose here.

I was literally soaked in sweat after the run. And I so envy the 21K runners having their finishers shirt, medal, and a pint of ice cream. Hehehe.

Will post some of the pics from photovendo once they're available.

Can't wait to have my next run. Lemme check my calendar:

June - I have Walk the World and Rock and Run lined up (5K)

July - Run4Life (tentative) and Takbo.ph anniversary run (5K)

August - tentative is the Rexona Run (10K)

September - tentative CamSur (10K)

October to December - Open slots

See you at the races!

May 27, 2010 Badminton

After skipping 2 badminton sessions, I played again last night. Before that, Deng and Precious had their running routine for about 20 mins. From my last post, I did have left knee pain and was hesitant to try running because of the idea that I need to rest and ensure that before Sunday, I'm on my tiptop shape. Couldn't resist the feeling of challenging my knees (my left knee that is). I ran about 100 meters (if my calc is correct). It still hurts a little but felt a lot better. :D Hallelujah!

After running, we went on and played badminton. Again, I was apprehensive of chasing the shuttlecock for the fear that my knees would hurt. But being the "addict" player (as what they call me), I still ran and chased. After the game, my knees felt much better and I think I can fully trust my knees would regain it's shape on Sunday. For now until Saturday (promise!) I will have a rest and try to TENS my knees to make sure it's 2/10 or painfree on Sunday. :D Wish me and my friends goodluck guys.

When is the best time?

When is the best time to do a half mary and a full mary? My goal is to do a half mary before the year ends. But that is when specifically? Will it be October? November? December? I do not know. Will that happen in CamSur?

Maybe I should answer the question first: AM I READY?

I love running and being a marathoner, like the masters, excites me.

Knee Pain

Ouch!!! This is the first time since I started running in March 2010 to feel pain on my left knee.

As I was doing my usual training run last night in preparation for the Nature Valley Run, on my last 200 meters, I suddenly felt pain on my left knee. It's tolerable but I'm worried it might affect my performance or worse is that I may not be able to run at all... Pain, pain go away!!! :(

I'm having difficulties of going up and down the stairs and it's tender upon palpation (patella) on resting position. :( Need meds to help it go away. Hoping this will be okay before Sunday's run.

How to Organize a Running Group?

I'm now tasked to organize a running group for SPi as part of the Fitness Club. Together with my colleagues/friends, we are spearheading this activity and we are excited about the idea. Ijust need to gather my thoughts and personalities to help me accomplish this task.

Hope there's someone out there who can help us organize the running group.

At Last!

Since I only have a few days to train for this Sunday's Run (Nature Valley - Second Leg of Runrio), I opted to train since weekend and up to Wednesday. My goal is to at least reach sub 30 during training and that somehow can gauge how fast I can finish the actual run on Sunday.

Last night, I decided to use my MP3. This is the first time I used it since I felt that the wires and the plug can hinder my movements. But I think it did well for me. I was able to finish a 5K course at 29:07 mins! I felt really glad to finally finish it sub 30. Though I'm not expecting that same time on Sunday because I haven't run on BHS before and it's just my second event. I'll update you guys after the race. :D

Also, today, I found out late that the guys I look after as inspirations for running commented on my previous posts. Hehehehe. Thanks to runningshield and journeyingjames!

See you around!

42K Training Manual

I just wanted to share this Manual. Thanks to the masters.

1. Start having 2.5 hrs run once a week for one month.
Run at least 4 times a week. You can run everyday.
2. You must have 3 types of run every week, short slow run (recovery run) - 1 hr or less, fast short run and long slow runs.
3. Increase your mileage time by 10% every month.
4. On the last week before the race, start decreasing your mileage until wed. Don’t do more than 2 hrs until Wednesday. Thursday to Friday short slow run only. Saturday, brisk walks.
5. To avoid injury, start your run very slow then increase your pace gradually.
6. You must have strengthening exercise weekly like biking, weight lifting (light only), swimming 3 times a week. Best time to do strengthening is 10 hrs before or after your run.
7. Try to do at least 3 of 32km runs in the last 2 months before race day.

I will definitely try this program. Who knows I could be joining 42K in the near future. But this is also beneficial to all runner enthusiasts to improve their performance in their next runs. Kudos to the masters!

Where I Train (cont.)

I finally know the distance of the park:

1 full circle = 600 meters x 10 rounds = 6000 meters or 6 kilometers

I can finish 6 kilometers in 40 mins! So 5K+ would be around 33 mins! Sub 30 here I come!

Where I Train

I just wanted to share where I train for running:

I always run here at least 2-4 times a week, 5-10 rounds per day. :) Now, I'm not sure how long one round is. Still trying to figure it out.

Now I'm preparing for my second run, Nature Valley.
